The interview's quotes, word for word, grouped by theme.

Verbato writes a quote bank from the recording of your research interview. A quote bank collects a participant's statements word for word, grouped by theme and marked with their time, ready to cite in a report.

For researchers who need the participant's exact words on hand.

Start with a recording

  • YouTube, Spotify, Google Drive, Dropbox and more than 1,000 sites.
  • Free plan: 2 h of audio a month. Files up to 40 min.
  • Without an account, your recording is held for 24 hours. It starts when you create your account; if you don't, it is deleted.
  • Your recordings are never used to train or improve models.

Your recording is saved for 24 hours. It starts when you create your account.

What is said, and the quote bank you get back

The transcript excerpt and the document are written to show the format. Every name, figure and quote is invented.

What is said · transcript excerpt

  1. 06:02
    Interviewer

So how do you decide what you can spend in a given week?

  2. 06:14
    Participant

I don't plan the month. I look at the number right before I tap.

  3. 06:49
    Interviewer

And if the number surprises you?

  4. 07:02
    Participant

If it's lower than I thought, I mean, it depends what's in the basket, I put something back.

How your quote bank is written

  • No quote is invented, and none is reworded inside its quotation marks.

  • Quotes are grouped under theme headings, ready to lift into your report.

  • The full transcript stays beside the quote bank, for reading any quote in context.

  • Participants appear by code. The transcript keeps whatever was said.

Your format, not ours

The sections of your quote bank and the way it is written are yours to change. To fix a document, say what is wrong in your own words.

  1. 1You correct it

“Call the section ‘Evidence by theme’.”

That quote bank changes. Nothing else does.

  2. 2You say it again

Make the same correction on a later quote bank and Verbato asks: “You've changed this before. Always?”

  3. 3You decide

Answer “Always” and it is kept as a rule, applied from your next quote bank on. Answer “Just this once” and nothing is kept. Documents already written stay as they are, and nothing becomes a rule unless you confirm it.

  4. 4Your rules

I call the “Quotes by theme” section “Evidence by theme”.Undo

Every rule you have kept is listed, and you can undo any of them. An undone rule stops applying from your next quote bank.

How it works

Upload a file, paste a link, record in your browser, or send a voice note by Telegram or email. Verbato makes a word-for-word transcript, which you can edit and which stays beside the document. Your quote bank is written from it, in minutes.

Recording limits

A recording made in your browser can run up to 30 min on every plan; a longer session goes in as a file you upload. A free account takes recordings of up to 40 min each; for longer ones, see pricing.

Your recording

Deleted after 7 days by default, together with its transcript and documents. You can keep a project longer, up to your plan's limit. Deleting a recording leaves a receipt you can download. Nothing you record is used to train or improve AI models.

Questions about the quote bank

Why is part of a quote replaced with “[...]”?
It marks words left out of the middle of a quote, such as an aside. Nothing else in the quote is changed, and the full sentence is in the transcript at the same timestamp.
How exact are the timestamps on the quotes?
Approximate. Each one points to the place in the recording where the statement was made, close enough to find it, listen again and check the wording.
Does it choose the themes for me?
It groups the quotes under headings that come from this one interview, so you can find them. It does not code across your study. The headings are a starting point, and the analysis stays yours.
Is the quote bank made from the same interview as the summary?
Yes. One recorded interview comes back as both: the themed summary, and this quote bank with the statements behind it, word for word.
Do usability sessions and focus groups get a quote bank too?
The quote bank comes with the research interview. Usability sessions and focus groups have their own reports, which carry their quotes word for word inside the findings.

Find the quote. Check it in the recording. Use it.
