Testimony by topic, with the key statements quoted word for word.

Verbato writes a testimony summary from your recording of a deposition or witness interview. A deposition or testimony summary condenses what a witness said, topic by topic, quoting the key statements exactly, so the testimony can be worked with without rereading the transcript.

For lawyers who work through recorded depositions and witness interviews.

Recording details

Testimony of Mr Paul Hendry, warehouse manager of Harlow Fittings Ltd, in the matter of invoice no. 0412.

Summary by topic

Delivery. The witness confirmed the goods arrived on 3 February and were signed for.

"I signed the delivery note myself that morning."

[04:12]

The alleged defect. The witness said two units were damaged but could not say when the damage was found. "It might have been a week later, it might have been more." [11:47] (appears in this excerpt)

Notable admissions and inconsistencies

The witness first said the damage was reported "straight away" [09:30] and later that he "can't recall anyone writing to them about it" [12:05]. (partly in this excerpt)

Caveat

Working summary - not the official record.

Illustrative example

End of the illustrative example. Neither the excerpt nor the document was produced by Verbato.

How your testimony summary is written

  • Nothing inside quotation marks is paraphrased or tidied up.

  • Each topic gets a heading, a short summary and its key statements.

  • Who testified, and in what matter, is stated only as said on the recording.

  • No law, case or authority is cited unless it was said on the recording.

Your format, not ours

The sections of your testimony summary and the way it is written are yours to change. To fix a document, say what is wrong in your own words.

  1. 1You correct it

“I don't use the admissions and inconsistencies section. Take it out.”

That testimony summary changes. Nothing else does.

  2. 2You say it again

Make the same correction on a later testimony summary and Verbato asks: “You've changed this before. Always?”

  3. 3You decide

Answer “Always” and it is kept as a rule, applied from your next testimony summary on. Answer “Just this once” and nothing is kept. Documents already written stay as they are, and nothing becomes a rule unless you confirm it.

  4. 4Your rules

I leave out the “Notable admissions and inconsistencies” section.Undo

Every rule you have kept is listed, and you can undo any of them. An undone rule stops applying from your next testimony summary.

How it works

Upload a file, paste a link, record in your browser, or send a voice note by Telegram or email. Verbato makes a word-for-word transcript, which you can edit and which stays beside the document. Your testimony summary is written from it, in minutes.

Recording limits

A recording made in your browser can run up to 30 min on every plan; a longer session goes in as a file you upload. A free account takes recordings of up to 40 min each; for longer ones, see pricing.

Your recording

Deleted after 7 days by default, together with its transcript and documents. You can keep a project longer, up to your plan's limit. Deleting a recording leaves a receipt you can download. Nothing you record is used to train or improve AI models.

Questions about the testimony summary

Can I use the summary in place of the official record?
No. It is a working summary for your own preparation, and its last line always says so. It does not replace the official record. Check each quote against the recording before you rely on it.
Does it decide what counts as an admission or an inconsistency?
It sets apart the statements it reads as admissions or inconsistencies, each with its exact quote, so that you can judge them. It draws no conclusion from them. When there are none, the section is left out.
Does it tell the questioner from the witness?
Yes. Speakers are identified in the transcript, and the quotes in the summary are the witness's own statements. The transcript beside it shows who said each line, so you can read any quote in context.
How exact are the timestamps beside the quotes?
Approximate. Each one points to the moment in the recording where the statement was made, close enough to find it and listen again.

Bring the recording. Work from the summary. Check the quotes.
